Erddig (National Trust) – Wrexham, North Wales

We visited Erddig on the way home from our North Wales trip and whilst there we had some coffee and cake in the café.

My husband had a slice of carrot cake and a cappuccino and I had a slice of chocolate cakes and a hot chocolate.

The cakes were really nice homemade ones and the drinks were good (although I was disappointed that there were no marshmallows, especially as I had been spoilt for a couple of days at places that had them!). My husband said this was his favourite coffee and cake of the trip.

Beau’s Tea Shop – Beaumaris, Anglesey, North Wales.

On Tuesday we visited Beaumaris to look at the castle and pier and while we were there we had to sample some coffee and cake.

Beau’s was the first tea room that caught our eye but it was full up when we tried to get in so we set off down the high street to look at the other tea rooms, none of them looked as nice so we made our way back to Beau’s who luckily then had space available.

The tea shop is only small (I think there were just six tables) and traditionally decorated which gives it a nice atmosphere. They had a nice selection of homemade cakes on display.
My husband had a cappuccino and a slice of chocolate cake and I had a hot chocolate with marshmallows, a slice of chocolate cake and a glass of orange juice because I was thirsty!

My husband and I both enjoyed our cake and drinks. I was delighted that I was able to have marshmallows in my hot chocolate. We would be happy to return here and it was worth the wait to get in.

Penrhyn Castle (National Trust) – Bangor, North Wales

On Monday we visited Penrhyn Castle and had some coffee and cake in the tea rooms before we left (we went on to Plas Newydd, also National Trust, but we only had a cold drink in the teas room there so no review for that one).

They had a nice looking selection of homemade cakes. My husband had a slice of Coffee cake and a cappuccino and I had a slice of Chocolate cake and a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows!

My husband enjoyed his coffee and cake. My chocolate cake was delicious as was the hot chocolate and I was delighted that I was able to have marshmallows this time, they make hot chocolate so much better!

Chirk Castle (National Trust) – Wrexham, North Wales

We had a few days away in North Wales last week so the next few reviews are all from that trip.

We visited Chirk Castle on Sunday and the first thing we did was go for coffee and cake in the tea room!

My husband had a slice of Ginger cake and a cup of filter coffee and I had a slice of Chocolate cake and a hot chocolate. My husband was a little disappointed with the cake selection as nothing really leapt out at him but there were 3 or 4 different cakes to choose from. He did quite enjoy the cake and said the coffee was nice.

I enjoyed the cake, it was homemade, nice and moist very chocolately. It tasted like they had used a good quality cocoa powder in the sponge. The butter icing was nice as well although ideally I’d have liked a little more of it. My hot chocolate was nice as well (but some marshmallows would have been nice!).
